‘She came over with an attitude’: Woman records moment waitress verbally abuses her, but internet can’t decide who was right

A woman on TikTok has sparked a debate amongst netizens after posting a video of a waitress cursing at her for seemingly no reason. While some believe the waitress was out of order, others suspect there is a little more context.

Working in the service industry isn’t particularly fun or easy work. Sometimes customers can be a real challenge to deal with and while it’s important to stand up for yourself, professionalism is key. A woman by the name of Courtney recorded her experience as a customer at a cocktail bar in St. Louis. 

In the clip posted to TikTok, a worker can be heard asking Courtney what the issue is. When she explains the situation the waitress is then heard saying, “let’s not be a b****.” At this point Courtney asks for the workers name and to speak to a manager.

What is the context?

Based on the clues in the video we can assume that the disagreement stemmed from a mistake made by another employee. Courtney claims that the Happy Hour discount wasn’t applied by a colleague. Courtney did post another video showing her talking to the other waitress and she can be heard telling her to apply the Happy Hour discount.

TikTok reacts

The situation has elicited some rather opinionated responses from the people of TikTok. On Courtney’s initial video many agreed that the waitress was out of order, one person noted how “she came over with an attitude,” another asked, “did she tell you to be quiet? Who does she think she is?”

The second video posted by Courtney, the one showing the initial interaction with the other waitress, some perceived her tone to be rather condescending towards the server, others went as far as calling Courtney “rude.” One person wrote, “I wouldn’t have insulted you, but you are not talking to me like that.” However, others defended Courtney, claiming she was simply being direct when she spoke.

Down the rabbit hole

Courtney has since made several more videos unpacking the drama and it turns out there’s a lot more to the story than meets the eye. Turns out the waitress, whose name is Maddy, might have personal beef with Courtney. In a video explaining the situation, she claims that Maddy is close with her (Courtney’s) ex-boyfriend who was also at the bar with her that night. 

The connections and twists go further as Courtney denies knowing Maddy, although she admits she “knew of her.” However it seems this connection to one guy is perhaps the real reason for the animosity between the two. The official TikTok account for the bar also released a statement addressing the situation and it was confirmed that Maddy had been put on probation although it seems like this drama is just getting started.
