Two customers allegedly demand chips and a drink with $8.95 sub at Jersey Mike’s. The employee has one response: ‘Are you out of your mind?’

"I rebuke whatever is going on in this air."

A Jersey Mike’s employee has gone viral on TikTok after venting about customers who assumed a promotional sign for an $8.95 sub included a chip and a drink. The employee, identified on the platform as Andre Thompson, filmed himself inside the store pointing to the sign in question.

In the video, Thompson explains that the sign only advertises the price of the sandwich itself. He says people have been getting upset with him, thinking the deal was a combo meal.

In his TikTok caption, Thompson wrote, “yall over here yelling at us thinking the chips & drinks are included.” He ended the caption by asking people to read the sign before ordering. The video was posted under the username @andrethompson856 and has been viewed 75,200 times.

Employee says sign only advertises the price of the sandwich

In the video, Thompson points to a red and white sign behind the counter and reads it out loud. “Try a regular sub for $8.95 plus tax,” he says. He tells viewers that a chip and drink are not included with that price, and that it is not a combo deal.

He goes on to say that customers have been raising their voices at him over the issue, accusing the store of false advertising. Thompson pushes back on that claim, saying the price and terms are written clearly on the sign. “Ain’t nothing but no false advertisement when it’s right here in red,” he says in the video.

According to Thompson, customers see a picture of a chip and a drink next to the sandwich and think it comes with the deal. He says he offers to add a chip and a drink for an extra charge if customers want it. “Would you like a chip and a drink for an upcharge? I can do that,” he says.

Thompson describes an incident involving two customers who got upset with him over the same misunderstanding. In the video, he says, “Mayam, sir, I rebuke whatever is going on in this air.” He then says, “Are you out of your mind?” before ending the video by walking away from the camera. Jersey Mike’s has faced other customer-employee conflicts, like when a Baltimore woman visited for a free birthday sub but ended up in a shouting match.

The item in question is Jersey Mike’s Chicken Salad sub, made with roasted chicken breast, mayonnaise, celery, and black pepper. According to the description on Jersey Mike’s website, the sandwich is finished “Mike’s Way” with what the company calls “the juice.” The website lists the regular price as $8.95 and does not mention a chip or drink as part of that price.

The video drew a range of reactions in the comments section. Some viewers sided with Thompson and agreed the sign was clear. One commenter wrote, “The red sign does not say includes Chip and a drink people. It says plus tax. Make it make sense.”

Other commenters said they understood why customers were confused, since a picture of a chip and drink appeared next to the sandwich in the promotional image. One person wrote, “u are right but at the same time who had the brilliant idea to put a combo pic next to the offer.”

Some viewers used the video to comment on the price of the sandwich itself rather than the mix-up over what came with it. One commenter wrote, “I have never eaten here and never will. Way too overpriced.” Another wrote, “Mainly because for $8.95 it should come with chip and a drink. You’re overpriced.”

Other comments were more lighthearted. One person wrote, “You know it’s bad when Andre getting tired of it.” Another wrote, “Man I’m going back to chick fil a lol.” A separate commenter summed up the confusion by writing, “bad marketing people don’t read.” The sign’s wording has sparked broader customer confusion, as seen when a Maryland woman grabbed a sub and later needed a CT scan for a foreign object stuck in her throat.
