‘Weaponized incompetence final boss’: Woman asks husband to pack her lunch, ends up with dog food

What's in the (lunch)box?

A woman on TikTok has accidentally ignited a fierce debate on the topic of gender. In particular her video has got many talking about weaponized incompetence, a strategy employed (oftentimes by men) to essentially get out of future tasks by intentionally doing a task so poorly the person is never asked to do it again.

In this case that task involves a husband packing a lunch for his wife. TikToker Kaitlyn, (also known as Kaitlyn Teaches) shared an “unboxing” video in which she explained that she had forgotten to bring her lunch and so had to ask her husband, Trevor, to bring food to her at work. Starting off the video by lugging the hefty bag onto the desk she notes “clearly it’s a little full.”

The lunch bag holds a wild assortment of food

Starting out strong with a bag of cookies Kaitlyn quickly moves on and pulls out a bag of pretzels that looks about 99% empty. She then pulls out an apple (got to have a portion of fruit or veg in there) followed by a full tin of Pringles, another bag of cookies, two-day-old Chipotle and last but not least, a bag of dog food with a note attached that reads “Because you’re my dawg!”

Thanks Trev love you so much! Thanks for really putting thought into it…. Also I realized you clearly knew where the ziplocks were cause you used one for the dog food… #newteacher #teachertok #elementaryteacher #firstyearteacher #husbandwife

While Kaitlyn finds her husband’s antics to be quite humorous, let’s be honest, that isn’t the most balanced lunch. “Thanks for really putting thought into it” she sarcastically quips in the caption.

The people of TikTok were less than impressed

Millions of people saw Kaitlyn’s video and most did not see the funny side as she did. “As a husband this lunch stinks and he has to do a better job,” wrote one, “Weaponized incompetence final boss,” added another.

Joke or not it’s kind of a red flag. Many simply viewed this as another example of a woman downplaying her own spouse’s toxic behavior, while some labeled Trevor as incompetent and claimed his joke was not funny, others went even further, suggesting that he may not even like Kaitlyn.

Another TikToker by the name of “boop6203” shared her thoughts on the matter claiming that toxic behavior can escalate to violence. She had a similar experience a few years ago after sharing what she thought to be an innocent video of her husband only for the people of TikTok to point out that his behavior was not okay.

Kaityn updated viewers with another video a week after her initial lunchbox video in which she defended her husband insisting that it was simply a joke and that people just didn’t get her and her husband’s humor. Viewers on TikTok remained unconvinced, “If it’s a “joke”, where is the real lunch????” one viewer asked, “we don’t hate you girl we’re sad for you,” added another.
