For context, the overall premise of the sibling check trend, also known as the sibling then and now a trend, is to inform social media users’ followers of significant events that have occurred in their lives after taking a family photo. The reason behind the sibling check trend’s popularity is the unexpected outcomes. For some families, many of their lives remained relatively similar, while others have changed dramatically.

One particular TikTok user who has experienced quite of bit of recognition was Lee Ridings. In the post shared in early May, Ridings, a transgender male, uploaded a photo that featured himself and his two brothers, Lenny and Nathan. The video, which includes the iCarly theme song as background music, starts with an old photo of Ridings and his brothers before switching individual pics of each person, including Nathan’s tombstone. Since then, Ridings’ post has generated over 33 million views and more than 5 million likes.

In addition to Ridings’ upload, another social media user that has received much attention is Lyliana Villanueva. In Villanueva’s TikTok post, she used the sibling check trend to showcase the many people in her family, including her parents, that have been to jail at least once. Although Villanueva didn’t disclose the information regarding the charges, however, it led to many being amused by her story. Villanueva’s upload garnered over 29 million views and more than 4 million likes.

As the sibling trend began to make its way on Twitter, many shared their thoughts regarding the challenge.

One individual expressed how much they loved the trend.

At the same time, another Twitter user claimed they felt “personally attacked” by the sibling check trend because they are an only child.

A third person revealed that they were obsessed with the sibling check.

Another social media user shared that they enjoyed the sibling check trend so much that they wanted to do it with their family.

To date, over 37,000 people have participated in the sibling check trend using the same sound.
