Catelyn Wiseman, who posts on TikTok as @catelynwiseman, shared a close-up of a Jimmy John’s wrapper with shredded green pieces and white material spread across it. The video had gained 525,800 views. On-screen text read, “@Jimmy John’s THERE WAS FABRIC OR GAUZE OR SOMETHING IN MY SANDWICH”.
In the caption, she wrote, “@Jimmy John’s THIS IS SO GROSS !!!!! Soemthing that appeared to be chopped lettuce was in my sandwich BUT IT WAS FABRIC OR GAUZE OR SOMETHING help”. She held a clump of the mixture and said it was grounds for a lawsuit. She added that she would probably sue and get a billion out of them.
Wiseman pulled the white material apart with her fingers and said it had a woven, cloth-like texture. “Are we kidding?” she said. “Look at this. This is supposed to be lettuce.”
Wiseman and a second person pulled the white pieces apart on camera
She asked, “Wait, is there more down there?” A second person, whom she called Jacob, replied off-screen, “Yes, tons.” She said, “Like, is it all like that?” and then, “This is all like that. I told you.” Jacob pointed at the wrapper while she spoke.
Wiseman picked up more of the white material and said, “Look, look at all this. Look at this.” She pulled a piece apart and said, “Oh my gosh, ew.” She then said, “Oh, oh, look, I got- I got an underwear.” She added that it had something on it and said, “It’s got like- that’s mayo, I think. That’s what it is.”
She told viewers to watch as she stretched a piece. “Look at that. Watch this,” she said. “It’s literally tearing like cloth. It’s all- look at this!” She held up a larger clump and said, “Look at that, Jacob!” Finding unexpected things in fast food is not uncommon, such as when a California woman found something alive in her Little Caesars pizza.
She asked Jacob to pull a piece and said, “I’m sorry, pull that.” She then directed him to a bigger section and said, “No, in the big one that you have in your – there.” Jacob tried and said, “I mean, it’s hard to pull. It’s literally cloth.” Wiseman said, “It’s not lettuce, it’s like cloth.” The clip ended with her holding the material up to the camera.
The video did not show a response from Jimmy John’s. Wiseman did not say in the clip where the order was placed or when she bought it. She described the white pieces as fabric, gauze, or cloth, and she said the green portion was supposed to be lettuce. For Jimmy John’s, the odd stories don’t stop at food complaints, as one woman cashed in her rewards points on a sandwich and the bread made a knocking sound.
Some viewers offered ideas about what the stretchy material might have been. One commenter wrote that it looked like a disposable cloth that had gone into the lettuce while it was being cut. They wrote, “that is a disposable washcloth that got scooped up with the lettuce as it was being chopped.”
Another viewer compared the piece to a cleaning wipe. They wrote, “That looks like a Lysol wipe.” A separate commenter suggested a rag may have fallen into the machine used to shred the lettuce. They wrote, “Looks like Someone dropped a rag in the shredder.”
One person tied the clip to a longer claim about restaurant greens. They wrote, “I’ve been saying that the lettuce is not real for a while!” Another viewer offered a broader take on packaged food. They wrote, “Everything is fake now days.”
A different commenter said shredded lettuce can look fibrous after it is frozen and thawed. They wrote, “goodness go shred some lettuce then freeze and thaw it again this is what you’ll get.” Another viewer questioned continued fast-food orders. They wrote, “Why are people still eating fast food in 2026.”
