Woman orders from DoorDash and sees a young girl standing behind the driver. Then she reports the mother to the company: ‘Hire a nanny’

Doordash doesn't appear to have a policy on bringing children to work

A woman in Los Angeles wrote on a Facebook post that she and her best friend stayed at Airbnb rentals in Tampa and ran into two DoorDash deliveries that left her unhappy. Bridget Locklear described ordering pizza on the first night of their stay. She said a woman arrived with the order and had a young girl standing right beside her at the door.

On another night, she said they ordered groceries for breakfast. Bridget said the man who brought the bags had a child with him as well. She added that the groceries smelled strongly of smoke. She stated she reported both drivers because she does not think children should be part of delivery work and because she worried the second driver might have been under the influence.

Bridget shared screenshots of DoorDash support emails that arrived after her reports. In one message, the company told her they were sorry about her experience with the Dasher and that the situation would be reviewed. A later email thanked her for reporting a Dasher who was reportedly working while accompanied by her child and said the report would be looked at under company policies. The emails did not say any rule had been broken.

DoorDash replies and the Facebook post that followed

Baller Alert posted on Instagram about the Facebook update Bridget shared. The account said she wrote that drivers should “Make arrangements for childcare or hire a nanny” and that she would keep reporting similar situations. Bridget also said DoorDash is not a real 9-to-5 job, according to her Facebook post.

The Instagram caption noted that DoorDash’s reply never stated the driver broke a rule. It added that outlets including Ridester have reported the company allows passengers, including kids, as long as they do not interfere with the delivery and are not left alone in the car. The doorbell footage Bridget posted shows the little girl standing next to her mother while the woman looked at her phone.

Bridget appeared to stand by her reports in follow-up comments. She said it was her Facebook page and her camera, according to the Baller Alert post. The original Facebook caption ended with Bridget saying she was glad she reported the deliveries because customers should not have to deal with situations like these.

DoorDash’s Dasher website information about working as a delivery contractor offers background on the nature of the work. However, it does not establish whether bringing a child along is permitted.

Viewers on Facebook pushed back on the decision to report the mother. One commenter said it hurt their heart to see a mother reported for bringing her little girl along. They wrote, “Her child was standing right beside her.” Reports involving a parent and child have sparked similar debates before, such as when an Uber driver canceled and reported a mother.

Another person explained that DoorDash does not ban passengers because drivers are independent contractors. They wrote, “There’s no policy with doordash that says you can’t have anyone with you… Dashers are independent contractors they don’t work for doordash… They pay doordash to use their platform to make wages.” Customer and Dasher run-ins have made headlines elsewhere too, like when a DoorDash driver demanded more money after getting a tip.

A third commenter questioned parts of the story and asked how Bridget got access to the Airbnb door camera. Someone else defended the driver and wrote, “Girl sometimes a few cents in your pockets for views… is someone JUST making it by! I’ve been there! Kudos to the lady for trying to do her best! And making sure her baby is safe and not in the car!”
