Woman reveals her parents’ alleged strict rules for her growing up, including a 2-day interrogation in the desert when she broke one

A TikTok video has sparked a widespread debate online after a young creator detailed the unusually strict rules she says her parents enforced at home, including one punishment she described as the most traumatic experience of her life.

The video, uploaded by digital creator @_heywhatsupyall, has racked up more than 780,000 views and over 8,300 comments, with users divided over whether her parents were simply strict or took things too far.

Filmed while she was grounded, the creator explained that many of the rules are still in place today. She described growing up under what she characterized as strict parental oversight, particularly when it came to her phone, social life and privacy.

She said she did not get a cellphone until eighth grade. Even then, she had to leave it in her parents’ bedroom every night until midway through her junior year of high school. She also said her parents checked the phone regularly, starting with nightly checks before eventually reducing them to once every few days.

And the rules did not stop there. According to her account, she was not allowed to use the phone before school, nor could she bring it into her bedroom or bathroom during the day.

She also said she was expected to answer any call from her parents on the first ring, with the threat of losing her phone if she failed to do so.

Her parents also allegedly used monitoring software that allowed them to hide or delete apps from her phone. She said TikTok and Snapchat were both banned.

Things apparently reached another level after her parents discovered that she had secretly downloaded Snapchat to communicate with boys. According to her account, her parents then drove her out into a desert, where she says they questioned her for two days.

She described the experience as the most traumatic thing she had ever gone through. She said she then lost her phone for eight months, effectively cutting her off from her friends.

According to the creator, breaking other rules could also result in her having to write multi-page apology letters and detailed plans explaining how she would improve her behavior.

Even as a teenager, she said her parents were still reluctant to let her sleep over at other people’s houses. Instead, she said they preferred having her friends come over to their home.

The comments quickly showed just how divided people were over the story. Some thought the parents were being overbearing, while others saw the rules as evidence that they cared about their daughter.

One user wrote, “I’m sorry… why is no one talking about how she got kidnapped to the desert for 2 DAYS”

Another user had a very different reaction, writing, “These sound like great parents! You’re lucky they cared so much about you!”

One commenter added their own experience, writing, “Every time I did something wrong my dad would make me write a full page essay apologizing and if my handwriting wasn’t PERFECT and spelling and everything he would make me restart (I’m dyslexic).”
