‘Yall know what she did!’: Police officer arrests woman for speeding to get help for dying dog and internet seeks justice

Hopefully the dog was okay.

Footage of a woman being arrested after breaking the speed limit to save her dog has gone viral on TikTok and elsewhere online. Many claim that the police officer in the clip was unnecessarily harsh towards the woman who was obviously going through the trauma of potentially losing her beloved pet.

The bond between an owner and their dog is truly special. Our canine friends will do almost anything for us, and humans in turn will do almost anything for them. Most dog owners would likely do everything in their power to protect their pet, even if that means breaking the law, especially if its life was in danger.

What happened?

In one such case a woman was spotted while speeding to the vet by a police officer. Naturally the officer gave chase, not knowing the full context and simply doing her job.

The individual driving did not stop until she reached the vets at which point the police officer stepped out of her vehicle and proceeded to berate the visibly distressed woman despite her trying to explain herself. The officer then puts one of the women from the car in handcuffs while another woman takes the dying animal inside.

Footage of the incident taken from the officer’s dashcam has made its way online and people aren’t happy with the officer’s use of force.

On TikTok people debated whether the driver or the cop was in the right in this scenario. One person wrote, “yall they ran from a police office the force is 100% justified.” However, another wrote, “Just so unnecessary. This lady is not [a] criminal.” They also claimed that the police officer was “power tripping.”

While the officer may have been within her rights to arrest the woman, perhaps some situational awareness wouldn’t have gone amiss. Clearly the situation called for a calm and measured response, something which the officer failed to do.

People call for the officer to be fired

It also didn’t take very long for the people of the internet to find out the name of the officer who performed the arrest. Calls on the official Facebook page for Arkansas State Police were inundated with comments from angry citizens from all over calling for them to fire Holly Romero Hunter. One person commented underneath a post on the page, “Fire officer holly hunter romero yall know what she did!”

At the same time a petition was launched on Change.org which also called for Romero to be fired for what many claim was “unnecessary force against the driver.” At the time of writing the petition has over 32,000 signatures, showing just how upset the footage has made people.

As for the dog, it’s unclear whether it survived or not. Some comments underneath the TikTok video claim that it did not while others say it did. We can only hope that the pet ended up receiving the care it needed.
