How to update HBO Max to Max on Roku

Hopefully Roku users have better luck with this update compared to other people.

Max, formerly known as HBO Max, has been generating buzz recently after subscribers faced difficulties updating the app amidst the company’s transition to a new streaming platform.

As previously reported, individuals who attempted to update the app on May 23, the official day HBO Max’s rebrand occurred, took to social media to express their frustrations over the app not working correctly, and to share the error messages they were receiving. Due to the commotion, various subscribers even went as far as to threaten to cancel their paid plan with the company.

Although it is still being determined whether the situation was ever resolved, another topic circulating online that same day was how Roku users could get their hands on the Max app to experience the thousands of new titles stemming from the company’s partnership with Discovery Plus.

According to Roku’s official blog, those existing HBO Max subscribers would only need to sign into their accounts, because the information from the app would be transferred over. At the same time, those who did not have an account with HBO Max before the rebrand would have to download the Max app from “the Roku Channel Store,” and create an account.

The reason why HBO Max rebranded to Max is because its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, is trying to expand and wants to bring in a younger audience by including reality television programming. With this new change, it could cause a viewership increase, which would then lead to more advertisers.

At this time, no additional details have been released.
