Florida woman busted for alleged DUI with 2 yo in the car. What cops found in her ‘body cavities’ made the charges worse

Florida police got more than they bargained for when they pulled over 27-year-old Orlando resident Kaylie Poe.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Poe, 27, is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say she drove impaired with a toddler in the car. And once arrested, cops say she attempted to hide Xanax pills in her genital area while being booked into jail.

The incident began just before midnight on Friday, November 28, when a patrol unit spotted a vehicle driving erratically along Florida Park Drive in Palm Coast.

Poe allegedly committed a series of dangerous traffic violations, including driving the wrong way, failing to yield, and running a red light even after deputies activated their emergency lights.

The car finally stopped in the middle of an intersection before deputies moved it out of the roadway. Inside the vehicle were two passengers, one of them a 2-year-old child, the sheriff’s office said

Deputies reported signs of impairment: slurred speech, watery and bloodshot eyes, difficulty focusing, and trouble maintaining balance once Poe exited the vehicle. She failed multiple field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Poe passed her breath tests

But according to the sheriff’s office, Poe submitted to two breath tests, both indicating 0.000 alcohol. Because the level of impairment observed at the scene didn’t match the test results, deputies requested a urine sample. Poe refused.

During the booking search, detention deputies discovered several Xanax pills hidden in Poe’s sock. A more invasive search revealed additional pills wrapped in plastic and concealed in her genital area, according to the arrest documents.

The old “bra to body cavity” switcheroo

A deputy later reviewed patrol car footage that appeared to show Poe removing something from her bra padding and placing it in her genital area while being transported to jail. The recovered pills were identified as alprazolam, a controlled substance, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Common symptoms of Xanax intoxication can resemble the behaviors deputies described in Poe’s arrest report. Xanax is a benzodiazepine, and impairment can occur even without alcohol in the system, especially if taken in high doses or combined with other substances.

Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement. “First, this woman did something incredibly dangerous and stupid by driving under the influence of drugs with a young toddler in the car.”

Then, on the way to jail, Staly added, “She thought she would not get caught with Xanax, trying to hide it in body cavities, but she got caught and now faces additional felony charges.”

Deputies booked Poe into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and later released her on $9,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
