‘I drank one Twisted Tea, bro’: California woman whose alleged drunk driving resulted in death of couple shows no remorse

Anabell Correa allegedly ran a red light and collided with another vehicle.

A California woman who has been accused of causing the deaths of two people after allegedly drunk driving showed very little remorse to the officers arresting her. Anabell Correa reportedly had a simple six-word explanation to officers, telling them, “I drank one Twisted Tea, bro.”

Correa was charged with killing Desiree and Max Mooney in Bakersfield, California last March as per the New York Post. The suspect, who was 21 at the time of the incident, allegedly failed to stop at a red light which resulted in her crashing into the Mooney’s rideshare vehicle. The couple, who were on their way back from St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, were killed in the crash while their friend and the rideshare driver survived with significant injuries.

Tayler Wells, the friend of the couple who was also in the car, lost teeth, suffered broken bones, and had to relearn how to walk after the crash. The rideshare driver suffered a fractured neck and bleeding on the brain.

A GoFundMe was later set up to help with the funeral costs for Desiree and Max. According to the donation page, Desiree had turned 30 a few months earlier, “the void of the loss of Desiree and Max will be felt forever.”

Anabell Correa shows little remorse

It was determined by a Kern County judge in February that there was enough evidence connecting Correa to the incident. It’s alleged that the now 22-year-old had a blood alcohol level of 0.088% which is 0.080 above the limit. Correa is now facing 10 charges in total which include two counts of murder. She has pleaded not guilty and is set to go to trial in August.

It seems Correa has spared very little thought for those who died and were hurt by her alleged actions. She initially told officers “I drank one Twisted Tea, bro,” but subsequently stated “I’m never seeing my kid, huh, just because I drove and drank one, two drinks.”

Of course, it’s not that she drove and drank, but rather, what happened after that which will see her in jail potentially for life. She’s not the only one who might never see her kid again, the parents of Max and Desiree Mooney also won’t be able to see their children as the GoFundMe explains, “Several families lost their children that day.”

Anabell Correa is currently being held in custody without bail. Her attorney has argued that she should be charged for manslaughter rather than murder because she had no priors before the incident. However, police have since provided evidence in the form of statements made by Correa on the night she was arrested which suggest that she knew drunk driving was dangerous.
