Oregon Man receives lifetime punishment with no parole for 30 years after killing his 9YO Son with a spear. Then he blamed his daughter

An Oregon father has been sentenced to a life term with a long minimum prison term after he pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his 9-year-old son with a spear, Law&Crime reported. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office identified the defendant as Levi Higgins-Green, 38.

In August 2026, Higgins-Green pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree and several other charges, the sheriff’s office said in a press release on Facebook. The office stated that deputies first responded on September 28, 2025, to a report that a 9-year-old boy had been stabbed with a spear at a home off Cape Arago Highway.

Responding deputies were told the boy’s sister “had accidentally stabbed him during play with a spear,” the sheriff’s office said. Investigators later determined the boy had been stabbed by his father, the office added.

15th Judicial District Judge Martin Stone accepted the guilty plea and imposed sentence, the sheriff’s office said. The office stated that Higgins-Green received 80 months on the first six charges and a life sentence with a 25-year minimum on the murder count, for a combined minimum of 380 months, or about 31.6 years.

Law&Crime reported a combined minimum sentence of 30 years and eight months and said he will be eligible for parole after serving that minimum under Oregon law. The sheriff’s office listed the guilty pleas as strangulation constituting domestic violence, assault in the third degree, assault in the second degree constituting domestic violence, a second count of assault in the third degree, two counts of criminal mistreatment in the first degree, and murder in the second degree.

Officials described the plea package as also covering additional assault and related counts tied to the same investigation. The sheriff’s office said names of surviving family members were left out at the family’s request. Violent crimes in Oregon have included other fatal cases, such as when a man was arraigned for allegedly killing a fifth woman.

The stabbing was reported at a residence in Charleston, a sparsely populated, unincorporated bayside community in Coos County, according to Law&Crime. Multiple agencies responded, and paramedics tried to save the child. The boy was taken to Bay Area Hospital, where he died of his injuries, officials said.

A weeklong investigation led to a search warrant at the home in October 2025, the sheriff’s office announced at the time. Detectives obtained evidence that the father had killed the son, and law enforcement did not give a motive. The case is among several where fathers have faced severe legal consequences for harming their children, such as a Georgia father who finally paid for his crimes years after his teen son set fire to their home.

Higgins-Green was first charged with one count of second-degree murder, and more charges followed, the office indicated. “Also uncovered during the investigation were instances of domestic violence involving the other adults and children who lived in the home which occurred over years,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the case was investigated with help from the Coos Bay Police Department, Oregon State Police, Kids Hope Center, Charleston Fire Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, and the Eugene Police Department. District Attorney Jody Newby prosecuted the case, the office said.
