Gomez was sentenced on June 15 and will serve 4 years in prison after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a trial in March reported NBC Bay Area. Gourkani, 34, who gained a following online due to her resemblance to media personality and socialite Kim Kardashian, met with Gomez at the Marriott Hotel in Burlingame in San Mateo County on April 19, 2023.

The unlicensed cosmetologist administered the gluteal silicone injections to Gourkani at the hotel. These particular butt injections are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as there are several health risks associated with it. According to Healthline.com, the filler which is used in the shots can potentially travel to other parts of the body which can have fatal side effects.

Even though it’s illegal in the U.S. there have been numerous cases of people being hurt or killed by such injections. Following the injection Gourkani quickly fell ill and was taken to the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. The next day she passed away due to a respiratory failure and a pulmonary embolism.

Vivian Alexandra Gomez is arrested

Following Gourkani’s death Gomez immediately returned to Florida although it wasn’t long before she was arrested on a warrant issued in San Mateo County. She was flown back out and arrested before posting a $200,000 bond to remain out of custody while she waited to face charges of involuntary manslaughter.

Almost three years after the incident Gomez went on trial in March 2026. The trial lasted two weeks and the jury deliberated for three hours. The San Mateo County Superior Court jury ultimately found Gomez guilty of involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license according to NBC Bay Area. Judge Leland Davis ruled that Gomez would have to stay in custody until her sentencing hearing which happened on June 15.

During sentencing Davis denied Gomez probation, stating that she was “an active participant in the infliction of death to the victim.” Victim statements were also read out in court. She was sentenced to four years in prison and she told the court that she did not intend to appeal her sentence.

One of Gomez’s attorneys, Geoffrey Carr, said that he agreed with the sentencing and claimed that the four year prison term was something Gomez and her attorneys had asked for from the start. “She’s a very nice woman,” Carr said of the defendant, adding that she “was willing to accept responsibility for involuntary manslaughter a long time ago.”
