The 10 Best Daredevil/Elektra Moments From Season 2

Season two of Daredevil is now streaming on Netflix, and it's fair to say that Marvel has once again delivered a real winner. With plenty of action and lots of material for fans of the comic books to get excited about, one of the show's biggest draws this year is no doubt the introduction of Elektra. Played by Elodie Yung, Marvel has taken the character in a very different direction to both the comic books and her previous live-action appearances. However, as with pretty much everything else the studio does, the changes work, and as a result, many of this season's highlights are Elektra's interactions with The Man Without Fear. What you'll find here are the ten best moments from Daredevil season two featuring Matt Murdock and Elektra. They spent quite a bit of time together over the course of the series, so narrowing it down to just ten is no easy feat, but it was definitely these scenes that stood out as being among the very best. Spoilers to follow..... 10) Suit Up Interestingly, the show's flashbacks reveal that Elektra was gone from Matt's life years before he first tried out being a vigilante. However, it clearly didn't take her long too long after returning to realize her old flame is secretly the Devil of Hell's Kitchen as she presents a shocked Matt with his costume after manipulating him into coming to her apartment to help take down members of the Yakuza. Dispensing with the clichéd approach of stretching out a reveal like this, it was awesome to see Daredevil get straight to the point, while still keeping us and Matt in the dark about Elektra. 9) Daredevil Vs. Elektra Jumping to a much later point in the season, we find Daredevil and Elektra at odds when she sets her sights on Stick after he attempts to have his former pupil killed. However, just as The Man Without Fear is the process of talking her down, it's revealed that she's actually The Hand's secret weapon, and Matt finds himself now having to do more than just convincing Elektra not to murder her one time mentor. The fact that the bond these two share snaps her out of a turn to the dark side really emphasizes their closeness and feels like a moment which has been earned by this stage. 8) A Visit To Fogwell's Gym With just the one episode devoted to exploring the history between Matt and Elektra, him taking her to Fogwell's Gym (a location which factored heavily into the season one flashbacks addressing Matt's relationship with his father) was a smart way to show that there was once a very strong connection between these two. Them discovering that there was much more to the other than meets the eye was also great, while the surprisingly beautifully shot sex scene which followed was very well handled. These scenes quickly made us buy into the relationship and for that, they deserve praise. 7) Two Very Different People Daredevil handles the relationship between Matt and Elektra in a very different way to the comic books, and that also applies to the reason they part ways. When Elektra presents the man who ordered the murder of Matt's father as a gift of sorts to him, he inevitably loses his cool and savagely beats him (but clearly feels guilty about his actions). However, things take a dark turn when Elektra starts egging Matt on to kill him; it instantly becomes clear to us and the future vigilante that these two may not have as much in common as first thought and that there's a real darkness within her. 6) The Death Of Elektra In the comics, Elektra dies in Matt's arms after being stabbed by Bullseye during a battle to decide who should be The Kingpin's top assassin. However, the show handles things a little differently, making Nobu the one responsible and having Elektra perish after giving up her life to save Daredevil. It's a heart wrenching moment, and Matt's outburst of rage following this shocking turn of events gave Charlie Cox a chance to shine as an actor. Plus, Elektra's death was done in such a different setting to the source material that it's fair to say this was a moment no on really saw coming. 5) Breaking And Entering Despite the fact that Matt clearly feels very resentful toward Elektra and the way she's suddenly invaded his life, the way they work together here may just prove that they're meant to be. Each utilizing their own unique skills in order to gain access to a safe containing some crucial information about the Yakuza, the one time lovers are in perfect unison in a sequence which essentially plays out like something you would see in a heist movie. The fact that neither of them are in their superhero duds actually makes this even cooler, and the way they escape is equal parts hilarious and clever. 4) The Truth Comes Out Season two of Daredevil took some major liberties with the source material when it comes to how Matt and Elektra met, but by far the biggest is the reveal that she was sent to seduce him by Stick. Sure, she still fell in love with him along the way, but the fact that Matt and Elektra's relationship was based on a lie comes as a blow to both the character and viewers. However, it makes those earlier flashbacks of her goading Matt into killing the man responsible for his father's death much easier to understand and actually adds a very interesting new wrinkle to the connection these two share. 3) Rooftop Battle Throughout the course of the second half of the season, Daredevil and Elektra can be seen battling The Hand on several occasions. These are all very fast paced and exciting sequences which are well worth re-watching - even if it's just to see what you missed - but the best of them all comes right at the very end just moments before Elektra is stabbed by Nobu. Her and Matt teaming up to battle dozens of ninjas AND their leader is nothing short of epic, especially as she's both wearing a costume and wielding her sais (the character's weapon of choice in the comic books) by this point. 2) An Unexpected Team-Up Following the scene I mentioned earlier which saw Elektra ordering Matt to suit up as Daredevil, the two do battle with the Yakuza in an awesome sequence which beautifully showcases both of their impressive abilities. Elektra in particular looks good here, and while she had neither a costume nor her iconic sais at this stage in the series, seeing her kicking ass alongside The Man Without Fear was still extremely satisfying. Following this with a very tense diner scene was fun too, and showed a nice contrast to how well they work together in some ways, but not so much in others. 1) It's Not Over Yet... This is arguably more of just an Elektra moment than a Daredevil/Elektra one, but the fact that it's obviously going to have major ramifications for Matt makes it worthy of being here. The Hand stealing her body and placing it within the same casket which was housing another unknown threat (I'd bet money on Kirigi) definitely points to Elektra being resurrected in season three, but just how different will she be after undergoing the process? That remains to be seen, but this was a great teaser which made it clear that the story between these two characters is far from over...
