The 10 Best Punisher Moments From Daredevil Season 2

Season two of Daredevil is now streaming on Netflix, and it's fair to say that Marvel has once again delivered a real winner for fans. With plenty of action and lots of material for readers of the comic books to get excited about, one of the show's biggest draws this year is finally getting to see their take on The Punisher after a series of failed big screen adaptations. Fans have been counting down the days until this version of Frank Castle hits the small screen since the moment The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal was cast, and the pressure has been on the actor to deliver the definitive Punisher ever since as a result. Having seen the show, it's now fair to say that he succeeded in doing the character justice. So, looking over this season of Daredevil, which moments featuring The Punisher stand out as the best? Here, you will find a ranking of his 10 greatest moments. Considering the fact that the character played such a massive role in the show this year, narrowing it down to just ten was no easy feat, but these were definitely the highlights... Spoilers will follow.... 10) Micro Starting at the end, the way Daredevil season two sets up that still unconfirmed spinoff for The Punisher is very intriguing and seems to nod to the introduction of a well-known character from the comics. Frank returning to his family home and retrieving a disc with the words "Micro" is a nod to Microchip, someone who started out by building weapons, supplying technology and providing friendship to The Punisher, but later became one of his enemies. This reveal also thickens the plot when it comes to what went on over in Kuwait, which is one of the season's biggest unanswered questions. 9) Pawn Shop As one of Frank Castle's first actual scenes after his action-packed introduction, it quickly becomes clear here that he's a powder keg waiting to go off. Forced to frequent a dodgy pawn shop in order to get his hands on a police radio, the guy behind the counter goes one step too far when he offers to sell the vigilante child pornography. Locking the door, Frank turns around, picks up the nearest weapon to hand (a baseball bat) and...well, we don't see what happens next, but it's not that hard to figure out. 8) "Bang!" After that superb first battle between Daredevil and The Punisher (I'll get back to that a little later), the first episode ends on one hell of a cliffhanger when Frank shoots The Man Without Fear in the head at point blank range. While it's not exactly hard to figure out that a show called Daredevil isn't going to lose its lead at the very start of the season, this moment still came as a shock and put a real exclamation point on this version of The Punisher's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The later revelation that Frank knew that it wouldn't kill the hero was also pretty cool. 7) Meeting The Kingpin The return of Wilson Fisk at the end of episode eight was an awesome surprise, and The Kingpin having a plan to use The Punisher for his own gain was a great way of tying their stories together here. Their interactions from start to finish are a highlight, with Fisk's betrayal and the fight between the two exactly the sort of material which should make fans extremely happy. Despite The Kingpin helping him escape from prison, Frank's dire warning that the next time the two are in the same room together only one of them will leave is classic Punisher and a fantastic tease for the future. 6) Corridor Fight Scene Daredevil got an awesome corridor fight scene in season one and an even bigger version in two, but The Punisher also gets the chance to show off his impressive fighting skills in an enclosed space. Trapped and betrayed by Wilson Fisk, it's Frank against a group of bloodthirsty convicts who are all armed with various forms of makeshift weapons. Taking them all out in a suitably brutal fashion, the vigilante is the only one left standing by the time all is said and done, and that leaves us with the very memorable image of The Punisher standing there covered head to toe in their blood. 5) Fighting In The Rain The brutal battles between Daredevil and The Punisher in season two are great, and their very different fighting styles make it hard to be sure who will come out on top. It's Frank who emerges victorious during their first encounter, and watching the two vigilantes going to war with each other in the rain is comparable to seeing a comic book come to life. The fact that they're both having to avoid being shot while trading punches helps to make this even more exciting, and the fact that we know so little about The Punisher at this stage just serves to heighten the drama even more. 4) The Logo It's a shame that Marvel decided to show The Punisher's final costume in promo material, because seeing Frank putting it together is a great moment. It may be as simple as the vigilante just spray painting his body armour with the skull logo, which has become synonymous with his story after him being shot in the head was well publicized during the trial, but finally seeing Frank become The Punisher we all know from the comics is very satisfying indeed. By the time the season comes to an end, it's clear that his transformation is now complete, something this logo signifies. 3) Rooftop Conversation Recreating a moment from the comic books, The Punisher chains Daredevil to a chimney, tapes a gun to his hand and gives him a choice which is basically lose/lose for the hero. Tense and exciting, it makes for edge of your seat viewing, but the conversation which comes before that is arguably even more compelling. As Matt pleads with Frank to give up his violent crusade, we get some insight into what makes The Punisher tick and why he's embarked on this mission. Whether Daredevil likes it or not, this confrontation also highlights some surprising similarities between the two. 2) "See You Around, Red." While the trailers for season two of Daredevil have made it look like The Punisher joins Daredevil and Elektra to battle The Hand with all guns blazing, the way things actually play out is a lot cooler. Just as it looks like The Man Without Fear's time is up, Frank guns down members of The Hand from afar, allowing the hero to deal with Nobu and emerge from this battle unscathed. Seeing as Matt is unmasked during this sequence, it's not clear whether or not The Punisher now knows his secret identity, but for the time being, it definitely appears as if these two have put their differences aside. 1) A Graveside Confession With The Punisher clearly defeated, he and Daredevil have nothing to do other than sit and wait (in a graveyard of all places) for the police to arrive. It's at this point that we get a very lengthy monologue from Frank as he describes the tragic day his family were killed in front of him and recalls a heartbreaking story about his daughter. [zergpaid It's no exaggeration to say that Jon Bernthal delivered an awards worthy performance here, and after seeing pretty much only non-stop violence from Frank, this sequence really humanizes the character and makes the viewer feel for him despite his actions.
