Arrow EP Teases Classic Characters Returning For The Final Season

Is it just me, or has this summer not had as much news pertaining to Arrow and its sister series as last year's? Fortunately, the drought should cease soon enough, what with San Diego Comic-Con arriving in a matter of weeks.

In the meantime, Arrow executive producer and showrunner Beth Schwartz is whetting our appetites by teasing what’s to come in the eighth and final season. With so many characters having walked through the door in the past, you’d figure at least a few fan favorites will return to help give Oliver Queen the proper sendoff.

Here’s what the head honcho had to say when asked by TV Line who’ll come back for one more tour:

“There are so many characters [to consider]. So many characters. And we’re definitely thinking about all of that, because just as much as our fans want to see it, as people who have been on the show for a long time, we are also fans of these characters. So we’re going to make sure that everyone has a great final season.”

Cryptic as that sounded, it stands to reason that the producers are still trying to lock down some big guest stars as filming begins very shortly. TV Line put Deathstroke and Malcolm Merlyn on their personal wishlist, but it sure would be cool to see Thea Queen or Nyssa al Ghul drop by Star City as well.

Considering how season 8 will consist of only 10 episodes, that means there’s less time to spread out visiting characters. But as Schwartz continued, she confessed to being up to the challenge:

“That’s the exciting part of next season, only having 10 episodes,” she said. “We’ve [been] brainstorming and thinking about who we want back, because there are so many characters that we love.” And if everything goes according to the ambitious plan, “I think every episode is just going to be humongous,” Schwartz offered. “We’re going to fit it all in, and it’s definitely going to be an amazing season.”

That’s what I like to hear. Knowing that Arrow returns with new episodes beginning on Monday, October 15th on The CW means we should learn much more between now and then. As always, it’s recommended you keep watching this space.
