DC and Marvel fans have been getting quite the shakedown this week. First, we had the news that Spider-Man will no longer be in the MCU and now, we’re learning that Legends of Tomorrow will be losing two of its stars next season, as Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford will step down as series regulars at some point during the upcoming run (at the moment, it’s unknown which episode they’ll depart in).

The real-life husband and wife acting duo star as Ray Palmer/the Atom and Nora Darhk in The CW series, and the EPs of the show, Phil Klemmer, Grianne Godfree and Keto Shimizu, sent this exclusive statement to Deadline about the pair’s departure:

“Brandon and Courtney have been invaluable members of the Legends family. They have always brought a level passion and collaboration to their characters and to the show — both on and off the screen – that we deeply admire and for which we are eternally grateful.”

Routh sent a statement of his own over to Deadline as well, with the actor saying that he’s grateful for his time in the Arrowverse and is upset to see his character’s journey come to an end:

“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring the big-hearted and humorous Ray Palmer to life for our fans over the last 5 years, but unfortunately, his storyline is pointed in another direction. I’m saddened to see Ray’s journey end for now but wish my Legends family well.”

Of course, as with most of the other past stars on the show, the door will remain open for the time-traveling duo to return in the future. As for now, though, it seems we’ll be saying goodbye to them quite soon. That being said, it’s not all bad news, as fans still have lots to look forward to with Legends season 5. Not to mention that there’s also that absolutely huge crossover coming in December.

Yes, as one of the biggest events in comic book history, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” will bring heroes from The Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow together once again. And in it, we’ll get to see Routh play not only the Atom, but an otherworldly version of Superman, too.

Tell us, though, will you miss Brandon and Courtney in season 5? Be sure to let us know by dropping a comment down below.
