The newly formed Broadcast Television Journalists Association will hold their very first nationally webcast and televised Awards show, the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, June 20th on VH1.com and on the ReelzChannel cable network on June 22nd. Along with honoring the best of television with awards for the top comedy and drama series on network and cable TV, the critics will offer the first ever award for the most exciting new series.

BTJA Executive Director Joey Berlin said in a press release that the Most Exciting New Series Award is “… a fun category involving a bit of guess work on our part.” Berlin continued “A great pilot doesn’t always yield a great series, but it’s interesting to see which shows have jumped out and captured our fancy at this early stage.”

Members of the BTJA have been getting an early look at some of this fall’s biggest network and cable series for the past few weeks. The eight nominees for the inaugural Most Exciting New Series are:

Alcatraz – Fox – 20th Century Fox

Awake -NBC –  20th Century Fox

Falling Skies – TNT – Dreamworks

Ringer – CW – Warner Bros.
