Kingpin is officially headed back to Hell’s Kitchen.
As one of the most poised, well-rounded characters on the Daredevil roster, Marvel fans reacted with glee after hearing the news that Vincent D’Onofrio had signed on to reprise as Matt Murdock’s greatest foe – hell, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight even went so far as to suggest that Wilson Fisk deserves his own six-part miniseries.
But before we get swept up in rumors and hearsay, here’s the latest: Vincent D’Onofrio has officially completed his first reading of the script for Daredevil season 3, and took to Twitter (via CBM) to inform curious fans. The post was accompanied by a dark and rather foreboding image of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, though it’s unclear if this is an entirely new still image or, in the more likely scenario, one that has been dusted off and pulled from the Marvel archives.

One way or another, this is a welcome reminder that, when it comes to Daredevil season 3, Netflix has set the wheels in motion. Behind the scenes, and after a brief spell on The Defenders, neither Doug Petrie nor Marco Ramirez are actively involved in Daredevil‘s latest run, and have instead passed the torch on to Erik Oleson, who will take point as showrunner from here on out. Frank Miller’s famous “Born Again” comic has also been name-dropped as a point of reference.
Season 3 of Daredevil is expected to pummel its way onto Netflix sometime next year, when the Man Without Fear will be joined by new episodes of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones – for the record, Iron Fist is just now beginning to gear up for a second season. There’s also the small matter of Disney’s potential acquisition of Fox’s entertainment divisions, which could spell a major shakeup in the Marvel/Netflix camp.
