That’s all we know for sure right now, but various reports and rumors that have surfaced since may tell us more about what the project will entail.

Following Deadline’s initial breaking of the news, Star Wars fansite Fantha Tracks reported that McGregor is in line to direct a few episodes of the series. What’s more, they’ve heard that Obi-Wan will be joined by a familiar “mechanical” character whose identity they don’t reveal. However, there’s one character that springs to mind.

Here’s how the site put it:

“…he will be performing alongside a familiar mechanical co-star, and when we heard who it was, our hearts skipped a beat.”

While this description may be talking about the likes of Artoo or Threepio, with no disrespect meant to those characters, I’m not sure their involvement would elicit this strong a reaction. But an appearance from everyone’s favorite part-mechanical anti-hero/villain definitely would get fans excited.

Could Darth Vader really be appearing in the Obi-Wan show, though? Well, it would certainly allow for a dramatic conversation between the former master and Padawan, seeing as they last encountered each other in Revenge of the Sith, when Anakin turned to the Dark Side and was gravely injured during their battle on Mustafar. Current canon says that they didn’t meet again until their fight in A New Hope, which ended with Obi-Wan’s death. However, it’s conceivable that they may have crossed paths in the interim.

We Got This Covered has previously been informed by our sources that Maul could also turn up in the series, following on from his cameo in Solo and coming in place of his increased role in the aborted sequel. That, along with this Vader rumor, remain unconfirmed for now, of course, but expect to learn more about Disney’s plans for Obi-Wan next weekend at D23.
