Virgin Media is hiring one person to play the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 for eight hours while paying them about $111 per hour, Variety reports. This temporary gig adds up to a total payment of roughly $900 for the lucky winner, who also receives a free copy of the game.
The company is currently accepting applications through November 15. To apply, you need to explain why you are the right person for the role. Once selected, the winner gets to spend eight hours exploring the sun-soaked state of Leonida and cruising the neon-lit streets of Vice City. This playing time does not need to be done in one sitting, as the company states the hours can be nonconsecutive.
The main goal for this position is to answer the question of whether the game lives up to the hype. You will need to share an honest review of your experience on Instagram or TikTok while tagging Virgin Media Ireland.
This promotion is sponsored by Virgin Media Ireland, which means the offer is only open to residents of the Republic of Ireland
If you do not live there, you are out of luck for this specific opportunity. Virgin Media is a division of Liberty Global, which is an international telecommunications and investment company owned by John Malone. A spokesperson for the company noted that they wanted to be part of the excitement surrounding this release.
“‘GTA 6’ is the biggest game launch in years, maybe ever,” a Virgin Media spokesperson said. “It’s the kind of launch that friends plan their whole week around, and we wanted to be part of that excitement.”
The excitement surrounding this title is massive, and other organizations are finding ways to use that energy as well. For example, an infantry division of the U.S. Army is offering active-duty soldiers a four-day pass to play the game if they choose to reenlist for at least two years. It is clear that the anticipation for this release is hitting every corner of the industry.
Rockstar Games, a branch of Take-Two Interactive, plans to release the game on November 19 for the Sony PS5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X and S consoles. The marketing momentum is staggering, as the first trailer for the game has already gathered more than 300 million views on YouTube. Additionally, an extended look at the game managed to pull in more than 31 million views on Netflix between August 27 and August 31.
