With trailers for the midseason premieres of both Supergirl and The Flash having been released days ago, fans of the Arrowverse were left wondering when they’d see some new footage heralding the return of the rest of The CW’s DC TV shows. In what may be described as a holiday treat, we’re now three-fourths of the way there as we finally have our first look at the returning episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

If the footage is any indication, the midseason premiere looks to amp things up when it comes to sci-fi action and amusing banter amongst the characters. You have to admit that it’s kind of funny to see a phrase such as “Legion of Doom” get scrutinized when it’s something we’ve taken for granted for decades. I guess the live action realm brings a sense of reality that naturally calls for certain concepts to be re-examined, but to completely discard them would be unfortunate.

Speaking of the Legion of Doom, it looks like we’ll thankfully be seeing more of them and, lest we forget, they’ve been slowly but surely adding to their number. The simplest solution when choosing a villain is to make them the dark reflection of a protagonist and we must admit that a team of evil time travellers is a perfect fit for this series. Add to that the fact that we’re going to see enough costumes from varying time periods to make even Bill and Ted blush, and it looks like the back half of this season will be a blast.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns with new episodes on Tuesday, January 24 on The CW.
