At Comic-Con 2012’s Doctor Who panel , executive producer/head writer Steven Moffat promised that fans would be in for a “bigger variety of episodes,” according to Screen Rant. Moffat, joined by stars Matt Smith (The Doctor), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams), revealed that Daleks would feature heavily in the upcoming season, and that the infamous Weeping Angels would return.

Moffat also hinted at scenes set in New York and said he had written the Ponds’ “last words ever” for their departure, but remained tight-lipped about exactly how they would exit the show. The crowds in Hall H were treated to a snippet of a Doctor Who western-style episode (“A Town Called Mercy”), then further footage of upcoming episode “Dinosaurs on A Spaceship”, which, unsurprisingly, features dinosaurs…on a spaceship. Dinosaurs + space = not even on-air yet and already my two hearts are leaping.

During the panel, Smith said a key quality of Doctor Who was that it was “not bound by genre” and that a storyline could be about a different topic each week. While us Whovians do love a good story arc, isolated “Monster of the Week”-type episodes like “The Unicorn and The Wasp” can be a welcome change of pace. From the sounds of things, they’re thinking even further outside the box here than the broad storylines in Season 6.

For further updates, stay tuned, and don’t blink.
