Does Nick Fury know that his wife is a Skrull in ‘Secret Invasion?’

This would really affect Fury's long-standing reputation.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 2.

Yes, Secret Invasion episode 2 cruelly shot many of the fan theories in the foot (the gleeful finger-cutting Sonya definitely approves) but it has made way for a possibility — that if true — would mean the most clever man in the MCU isn’t so intelligent after all.

So, let’s just jump to the jaw-dropper (mine hit the floor) of this week – the grumpy Nick Fury has a wife who is a Skrull!!! To know that when he joked about having a wife while being hunted by the Winter Soldier while licking his wounds in Captain America’s home he was actually being honest hits differently – at least he wasn’t as alone all these years as we thought. And Fury having a Skrull for a wife doesn’t feel that crazy seeing how closely he worked with them initially and how passionately he still feels for their cause.

But what keeps bursting our happy bubble is how his dear wife Priscilla, who was working comfortably in the kitchen in her green Skrull skin, quickly switched to her human form the moment Fury came in. I don’t know about you, but to me, that doesn’t exactly scream “My husband accepts me as a Skrull!”

Felt more like, “Hey, he doesn’t know I am a Skrull who replaced his wife, better keep the facade on to continue fooling him.”

The Skrull we see in the kitchen is Varra, the one we meet in the 1997 flashback scene at the beginning of the episode. While she does look like she respected Fury in the past, the majority of the Skrulls have changed alliances after not getting the home that was promised to them. What’s more, the actress, Charlayne Woodard — who is seen playing the human part — is titled “Priscilla” on IMDb. Why? If Fury knows she is a Skrull, why isn’t she denoted as Varra?

Suspicious, right? Fury being in the dark actually fits in with what Talos told him – that millions of Skrulls are impersonating humans on Earth. And that’s what makes the Skrulls — at least the ones who are openly dangerous — so much more harmful than HYDRA as the latter was expected to target only the ones in power. The Skrulls are busy replacing humans who no one would suspect at all as they have no obvious role to play in the bigger picture.

But whose side is Varra/Priscilla on – is she another secret Talos didn’t tell Fury or did she replace the real Priscilla on Gravik’s orders?

Secret Invasion airs every Wednesday on Disney Plus.
