The Butterfly Effect and The Mighty Ducks actor Elden Henson has jumped on board Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil series as Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock’s best friend and legal partner. Marvel announced the news themselves this morning via Twitter:

Henson is only the latest cast member to join the series, which is gearing up to start production next month. He joins Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Cox in the titular role, Law and Order: Criminal Intent alum Vincet D’Onofrio as the crime boss with a thing for white suits, Wilson Fisk (AKA: The Kingpin), and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’s Rosario Dawson in an as-yet-unidentified recurring role.

Foggy Nelson has been a strong supporting character in the Daredevil comics since his initial appearance in 1964, and has gone from deeply conflicted and self-conscious law partner to comic relief everyman. His down-to-earth nature often serves as a nice contrast to the more serious and and grim Matt Murdock, though they often share a similar attitude about the law, and have reservations about taking on clients they suspect may be guilty.

Nelson was played by Jon Favreau in the 2003 Daredevil film, though some would argue that his portrayal wasn’t quite accurate to the comics. With Marvel Studios’ track record, we should expect something a bit more faithful this time around.

Daredevil has no set release date at this time, but is the first of several 13-episode Marvel series coming to the streaming service. Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage will follow suit, and lead into a larger team-up miniseries entitled The Defenders.
