Move over Jennifer Garner, because a new Elektra is making her way to Hell’s Kitchen. Marvel announced today that “after a worldwide search,” G.I. Joe: Retaliation and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress Elodie Yung has been cast as the deadly ninja assassin in Daredevil‘s second season.

Created by Frank Miller, Elektra Natchios is the longtime love interest of Daredevil, whose history as a deadly assassin for The Hand often drives a wrench (or twin sai) between the two. The character was briefly mentioned in Daredevil‘s first season, as Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson reminisced about a relationship with a Greek woman from college that “didn’t work out.” Many (including us) hoped that that Easter egg would lead into the character’s small screen debut, and now that dream – along with the Punisher’s arrival – has become a reality.

Much like how Daredevil‘s first season made up for the disappointment that was 2003’s eponymous film starring Ben Affleck, we’re hoping that Yung’s portrayal of Elektra can make us forget all about Jennifer Garner’s iteration of the iconic antihero, who received her own critically derided solo spinoff film in 2005.

Tell us, are you happy to hear that Elodie Yung will be playing Elektra when Daredevil returns next spring? Or would you rather another actress take on the coveted role? Sound off in the comments below.
