The first clip has been released from this week's episode of Arrow, and the spotlight is squarely on Felicity Smoak as she comes to terms with the life altering injury which she suffered at the hands of the villainous Damien Darhk in the midseason finale. The show is clearly going to be taking things in an interesting direction, as the key member of Team Arrow ends up coming face to face with her younger self.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim had this to say about how being confined to a wheelchair is going to have an impact on Felicity’s story arc in season four of Arrow:

“The wheelchair is the beginning of Felicity’s story this year, not the end of it. I read online people saying, ‘Oh, lighter season my ass.’ I would argue that for Arrow, this is lighter. What’s particularly lighter is Felicity’s reaction to her injury and the way she handles it. Last year, there would’ve been a lot of sobbing and crying. This year, you’ll see that, in many ways, Felicity comes into her own in a much greater way than she would have had she not faced this adversity. Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. You’re really going to see that in the upcoming episodes with Felicity.”

This is major shake up of the status quo, but with everyone involved with Arrow denying that Felicity is going to become Oracle, it remains to be seen how the whole thing will end up playing out.
