After hitting a veritable home run for the second consecutive week, Supernatural looks to make it a trifecta as this season’s penultimate episode, titled “We Happy Few,” likely has many fans anxiously awaiting next Wednesday.

We’re now at the point in the season when producers hold their cards closer to their vests and synopses tend to become much more vague. Case in point:

Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) face their biggest challenge yet. Rowena (Ruth Connell) makes her move. John Badham directed the episode written by Robert Berens (#1122). Original airdate 5/18/2016.

Not much to go on, huh? Luckily, the trailer embedded at the top adds more variables to the equation and allows us to infer more about next week’s episode. Sam and Dean’s “biggest challenge yet” is undoubtedly Amara/The Darkness and understandably so, seeing as how she’s God’s sister.

The “Biblical Battle Royale” boasted in the promo video is something we would expect to see in the season finale, but sometimes you never know how much the writer’s room has cooked up. A mere showdown between the two most powerful beings in the universe may end up being the tip of the iceberg!

As for what move Rowena is said to make, well, that one’s a little harder to figure out. Her appearances have come sporadically over the course of this season and we have already seen that she regrets putting any faith in Lucifer or Amara. One thing’s for certain: Rowena is and always will be on her own side and whatever she has planned may have major ramifications on Season 12.

With this outing featuring not only the Winchester boys, but also the aforementioned Chuck/God, Amara, Lucifer/Castiel, and Rowena, in addition to Crowley, I must say this truly feels like the culmination of eleven years of storytelling and not just the past 21 episodes. The series hasn’t had this feeling since the tail end of Season 5 and that means no fan – diehard or lapse – should miss what’s to come.

Supernatural airs Wednesday nights at 9:00 pm EST on The CW.
