They may not hold the clout of, say, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, or the zany personality of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but there’s another Marvel team forming under the looming shadow of Avengers Tower. Its name? The Defenders, an ensemble of superpowered individuals comprised of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Mike Colter’s Luke Cage.
Over the past two years, Marvel and Netflix have lent viewers the chance to become acquainted with each reluctant anti-hero – the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen; the smart-ass detective; the righteous ex-con; the kid with the glowing fist –Â far in advance of The Defenders. But now that Danny Rand has staged his origin story, it’s almost time to welcome Marvel’s latest team onto the small screen.
Pegged for a premiere on August 18th, CBM has pulled together a series of motion posters for The Defenders, each of which is tailored to the specific hero at hand. So, for instance, Marvel’s promo for Matt Murdock’s attorney by day, crimefighter by night labels Charlie Cox’s blind ninja to be the “longtime listener” of the team, while the motion poster for Jessica Jones draws attention to JJ’s drinking problem…and dubious punctuality.

As this is a crossover series, today’s promos also place all four of The Defenders in very specific locations. Danny Rand, for example, is seen meditating outside the offices of Alias Investigations. The end result is a neat slice of fan service, but Marvel and Netflix’s team-up series is also set to bring together the many villains of this small-screen universe, after Mike Colter teased that Sigourney Weaver’s imposing uber-villain, Alexandra, holds ties to all four anti-heroes. Color us intrigued.
All eight episodes of The Defenders will premiere via Netflix on August 18th.
