As you may recall, this beloved cult favorite originating from the darker side of DC (and Vertigo) had the spotlight shone on him with two films and two TV series – one live action and one animated – many moons ago, but he’s lived in relative obscurity since. Fortunately, that turned around in recent years with memorable appearances made in animated flicks such as Justice League Dark and Batman and Harley Quinn.

Now, that momentum will be built upon with a new live action series set to make its way to the DC Universe streaming service in the near future – and it looks like the producers may have landed the right guy for the titular role.

Keep in mind that the human side of the equation – Dr. Alec Holland – has yet to be cast, but Splash Report brings word that none other than Derek Mears will be brought aboard to play Swamp Thing himself. If his name sounds familiar to you, it should, because he already has iconic roles such as Jason Voorhees (2009’s Friday the 13th remake) and the Predator (2010’s Predators) under his belt.

While we wait for the ink on this one to dry, keep in mind that the same outlet also reported on how Len Wiseman would direct the pilot episode before the official word got out, so there’s much reason to give this credence.

When it comes to those who’ve already signed up, Gotham‘s Crystal Reed has been hired to play Abby Arcane, with Maria Sten filling the role of Liz Tremayne. If these trends continue, then expect for more casting news to come down the grapevine in the coming weeks.

Swamp Thing premieres sometime in 2019 on DC Universe, and as soon as we hear of any further updates, we’ll be sure to let you know.
