Game Of Thrones Star Says He’s Been Sexually Assaulted By Fans

Being a cast member in a hit TV show or movie isn’t always as fun as it may seem. Sure, you’ve got the fame and fortune and everything else that comes along with that, but you’ve also got crazy fans to deal with, and few properties have crazier fans than Game of Thrones, HBO’s beloved fantasy series that’s now in its final season and quickly approaching its grand finale.

But circling back to those fans, and actor Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick Payne, sat down with Esquire recently for an interview and explained that he’s been sexually assaulted by some over-eager viewers in the past. Having seen his character’s popularity grow quite a bit over the past few years, along with becoming something of a ladies’ man on the show, Portman explained that a lot of older women seem to have the hots for him.

“I’ve been grabbed by so many… like the amount of like older, older women who are very…” he said, making a grabbing gesture with his hand. “What can you do? You know? Obviously tell them not to do it.”

“It hasn’t happened for a while. In this day and age you’d think that people would be able to separate reality from fiction. I don’t want to say it comes with the territory, but, you know, people are crazy about it. It’s certainly not cool.”

Continuing on, Portman said that he actually doesn’t mind the stigma that’s attached to his character, revealing that it’s been quite fun.

“It’s really not a bad thing, to be tied to your character. When you tell a 20-year-old actor, who’s sort of stumbled onto this big TV show, that all of a sudden you’re meant to be Casanova, people all over the world wonder whether or not it’s true,” Portman said to Esquire. “I would be lying if I said that that hadn’t been fun.”

Fair enough, and we imagine that a lot of the leading men – and women – in Game of Thrones have probably experienced something similar. After all, the show boasts a pretty good looking cast, for the most part, and as we said above, few franchises have crazier fans than this one.

Looking ahead, though, and the Night King and his army have finally made their way to the gates of Winterfell, laying the groundwork for the series’ equivalent of the famous Helm’s Deep battle from The Lord of the Rings – just swap out Sauron for the Night King and Uruks for wights and you’ll have some idea of what’s to come this Sunday.
