Harrison Wells To Experience “Epic Emotional Journey” In The Flash Season 4

It's become a fixture of The Flash that we get a new incarnation of Harrison Wells every season, with Tom Cavanagh wowing fans with his takes on season 1's evil Eobard Thawne in disguise, season 2's "Harry" Wells from Earth-2 and season 3's optimistic H.R from Earth-19. For season 4, however, it looks like Harry will be staying on full-time as the resident Wells at S.T.A.R. Labs.

It’s become a fixture of The Flash that we get a new incarnation of Harrison Wells every season, with Tom Cavanagh wowing fans with his takes on season 1’s evil Eobard Thawne in disguise, season 2’s “Harry” Wells from Earth-2 and season 3’s optimistic H.R from Earth-19. For season 4, however, it looks like Harry will be staying on full-time as the resident Wells at S.T.A.R. Labs.

Speaking with EW, exec producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that the character will see a lot of growth over the upcoming season, saying:

“He’s a genius, and his daughter is safe, and she’s The Flash on Earth-3, and he’s one of those people who’s realizing that he doesn’t have a life. So season 4 for Harry is really realizing what he’s missing in his life and what it is he needs to become a better, more complete person, and so he’s going to be going on a fairly epic emotional journey this season that is tied to The Thinker’s plan.”

Firstly, it’s good news that we’re likely saying goodbye to the revolving door of Wellses for the moment. It was a fun gimmick but, after three years, it was starting to get old. Besides, Harry is generally considered the fan-favourite of the three, so we welcome him undergoing a major character arc across season 4.

It’s also intriguing that this will be tied into the evil schemes of The Thinker, the show’s latest big bad. After three years of similar-themed speedster villains, it should be a welcome change of pace (pun intended) to have an antagonist who challenges Barry Allen on an intellectual level rather than a physical one. We don’t know how Harry gets caught up in The Thinker’s plans just yet, but we’re intrigued to learn more.

The Flash returns to The CW in little over a month’s time, on Tuesday, October 12th.
