If there’s any scene that perfectly encapsulates what Henry Cavill brings to the role of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, then it’s got to be the opening scene of season 3.
Appearing out of nowhere with a full-blown hero shot, the White Wolf decimates a rogue band of enemies in brutal and bloody fashion, with the very first word to come out of his mouth during the actor’s final run of episodes being Geralt’s signature “Hmmm.”
It was a hell of a way to reintroduce the lead character to audiences, but it was also bittersweet knowing that it’ll be Liam Hemsworth stepping into those shoes from season 4 onward. Curiously, though, a recent behind the scenes video posted by Netflix Geeked saw Cavill reveal quite the fascinating coincidence.
One of the stunt performers who met their demise at the sharp end of Geralt’s sword in season 3’s maiden set piece also happened to be one of the folks unlucky enough to cross paths with the monster-slayer during his very first action sequence on the streets of Blaviken in season 1.
While stuntmen being recycled and reused across multiple seasons of television is hardly an earth-shattering revelation, it’s a touch on the poetic side nonetheless.
You’ve got to wonder if the former Superman found himself getting sentimental after brutalizing, bludgeoning, and generally maiming a lot of these folks for the last time ever, having spent so much time handing their asses to them on a silver platter during his three-season run as the figurehead of The Witcher.
