After a very impressive turn in The Gift, Arrested Development‘s Jason Bateman is set to return to the small screen as the director, star and executive producer of Ozark, a new hourlong series created by Bill Dubuque (The Judge). Unfortunately, plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being, but Deadline reveals that it takes place, “in the dark and dangerous world of drug-money laundering.” The series is named after the location it’s actually set in, the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

Ozark is obviously going to be a big test for Bateman, especially as he’s taking on multiple roles behind the camera as well as obviously starring in front of it. There’s no word on who will be joining him in the series, but the actor is currently working with Dubuque to establish the creative vision for the show. It is of course worth noting that Bateman is no stranger to directing, and he recently helmed The Family Fang, a movie which premiered to strong reviews at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month.

Eyeing a start date of next Spring, the trade adds that production company MRC will soon be taking Ozark to premium cable and digital outlets. That means it could find a home on anything from Netflix to Showtime, with MRC’s other direct to series shows including the likes of House of Cards and Blunt Talk.
