Jeremy Jordan Won’t Return As Winn In Supergirl Season 4

Supergirl fans were crushed when it was revealed that Jeremy Jordan would be leaving the regular cast of the show after the end of season 3 so that he could focus on his stage career. What helped the bad news go down though was that he'd be back as lovable tech whizz Winn Schott in a recurring fashion in season 4. As it happens, though, it's now been confirmed that this won't be the case and we'll have to wait until season 5 for more of the character.

Supergirl fans were crushed when it was revealed that Jeremy Jordan would be leaving the regular cast of the show after the end of season 3 so that he could focus on his stage career. What helped the bad news go down though was that he’d be back as lovable tech whizz Winn Schott in a recurring fashion in season 4. As it happens, though, it’s now been confirmed that this won’t be the case and we’ll have to wait until season 5 for more of the character.

EPs Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller explained to Entertainment Weekly that, between Jordan’s other commitments – specifically, he’s currently appearing in American Son on Broadway – and the lack of room in this season’s storyline for the fan favorite, they just decided it would be better to save his return until next year.

“We love Jeremy Jordan, we love Winn. It looked like, in terms of our storytelling, something we’d like to do at the beginning of next season as opposed to this season. We have a lot of stories that coincided with his availability at the end of the play. We don’t want to short shrift Jeremy or the character. So, we think it’s something that’s better served in season 5.”

Winn left the DEO and the present day in the Supergirl season 3 finale so he could accompany the Legion of Super-Heroes back to the future in order to stop an A.I.-killing virus. In his place, Braniac-5 AKA Brainy (Jesse Rath) remained behind as Team Kara’s resident genius. Given the ease of time travel in the Arrowverse, though, it shouldn’t be too difficult for Winn to come back to the 21st century when he’s good and ready.

As for Brainy’s storyline, he’s currently working with Nia Nal (Nicole Maines) to encourage her to become the superhero Dreamer, as seen in Sunday’s episode “Suspicious Minds.” Rath has really settled into the show, too, so hopefully Supergirl can find a place for both him and Winn when Jordan eventually returns.
