It’s the gift that keeps on giving.Â
With the highly anticipated upcoming season of Disney Plus hit series The Mandalorian premiering on the streaming service next week, its creator Jon Favreau recently revealed during a discussion with the Inside Total Film podcast why he doesn’t plan on ending the show anytime soon.
The Mandalorian, inspired by the Star Wars franchise, follows Pedro Pascal‘s character as he attempts to protect Grogu, an infant belonging to the same species as Yoda. The series’ timeline occurs five years after the catastrophic events in the 1983’s film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The Mandalorian also stars David Acord, Rosario Dawson, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Katee Sackhoff, and others.Â
In the interview, when asked if he had already conjured up an ending for The Mandalorian, Favreau expressed that because the series is in “a middle chapter of a much larger story,” there is more that still needs to be developed and uncovered.
“I think the beauty of this is that it’s a middle chapter of a much larger story. And though we’ll have resolution over time with these characters, I think that’s how these characters fit into the larger scope and scale, but it’s not like there’s a finale that we’re building to that I have in mind.”
Later, Favreau also disclosed another reason he isn’t ready to let go of The Mandalorian: he thoroughly enjoys telling the characters’ stories and watching “the adventures unfold” on-screen. The 56-year-old said,
“Quite the contrary, I love for these stories to go on and on. And so these characters potentially could be with us for a while, and I really love telling stories in their voice, and I love the way the adventures unfold and I’m looking forward to doing much more.”
This announcement comes on the heels of Favreau disclosing that he has already written the script for season four of The Mandalorian. Since the premiere of The Mandalorian in 2019, critics and fans alike have given the series rave reviews. In addition to the positive ratings, The Mandalorian has received a slew of awards, including fourteen Emmys.
The third season of The Mandalorian is scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus on March 1.Â
