Legends Of Tomorrow Season 3 Is Leaving The Door Open For A Constantine Appearance

When Matt Ryan debuted on NBC's live action Constantine series a few years back, most fans were in agreement that the producers had found the best live action Hellblazer possible. Unfortunately, the network didn't think ratings were up to snuff and cancelled the show after only 13 episodes. On the plus side, Ryan has since continued playing the character in various other projects, those being Arrow, Justice League Dark and an animated web series slated for release via the CW Seed online streaming service.

When Matt Ryan debuted on NBC’s live action Constantine series a few years back, most fans were in agreement that the producers had found the best live action Hellblazer possible. Unfortunately, the network didn’t think ratings were up to snuff and cancelled the show after only 13 episodes. On the plus side, Ryan has since continued playing the character in various other projects, those being Arrow, Justice League Dark and an animated web series slated for release via the CW Seed online streaming service.

Naturally, one would think a show such as Legends of Tomorrow would provide a decent way for John Constantine to rejoin the Arrowverse due to its ability to pluck DC heroes and villains from wherever they may exist on the timestream. In fact, the producers are said to be “campaigning for Matt Ryan’s Constantine to appear.”

According to showrunner Phil Klemmer, their reasoning may be due to the demonologist being qualified to handle season 3’s threat:

“This is a non-human entity. This is a much more supernatural, spooky vibe this season. We’re dealing more with magic. It’s less real-world bad guys.”

Actually, that statement lines up with what we’ve heard about the coming season more than you’d think. When appearing on Arrow, Constantine alluded to having a prior run-in with Damien Darhk, whom we know to be appearing this year. Additionally, Kuasa will be entering the fold and, knowing how her family is deeply rooted in mysticism, it’s looking more and more like the Waverider crew will have their hands full with the unexplainable.

Legends of Tomorrow returns for its third season on Tuesday, October 10 on The CW.
