Darth Maul made his first appearance in the live-action Star Wars universe in nearly 20 years in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, but his cameo didn’t lead to a bigger role in the sequel as anticipated due to the movie’s surprising underperformance. Hope for fans of the Dathomirian sprung up again recently, however, with the announcement of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series heading to Disney Plus.
We Got This Covered has previously heard that Maul would appear in the Ewan McGregor-starring show, but it now seems like there’ll be even more of the villain coming up. That’s because our latest intel says that Lucasfilm is developing an entire series revolving around Maul for the Disney streaming service. We’re pretty confident about this information, too, as it comes to us via the same source who told that the Obi-Wan show was happening back in May, well before it was officially announced.
As for details about this Maul project, it’s said to be set after the events of Solo. Sam Witwer will return to voice the villain, continuing on from his take on the character in The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series, but it’s unknown if Ray Park will be back to play Maul in person. Seeing as they brought him on board for Solo though, and given that the actor is so keen to play the role again, here’s hoping Park will get the opportunity.
At the moment, it’s unclear how this intel fits in with the fact that Maul is set to appear in Obi-Wan. He could easily turn up in both though to create some connection between the two series. Alternatively, it’s possible that plans have evolved and the former Sith apprentice no longer has a place in McGregor’s vehicle and so has been given his own show instead. As we haven’t been told otherwise though, let’s just assume Darth Maul is still set to face-off against Kenobi once again.
