Mariah Carey is almost ready to sign on the dotted line with Fox’s American Idol.

Rumor had it that Carey was being considered for another Fox singing competition show, Simon Cowell‘s The X Factor, which makes this a bit of a surprise. After the exit of Idol judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, the veteran show was in a hurry to pick up a new name.

In order to keep on schedule, the network jumped at the opportunity to bring Carey on board. Despite her recent history, the singer has a sensational history in the music business.

According to Deadline, Mariah Carey will make somewhere in the ball park of $17 million for the upcoming season. This number is definitely higher than what they were paying Jennifer Lopez before she decided to leave the show.

With two out of three member of the judging table exiting after last season, things on Idol are starting to look a lot like a revolving door. Is this the first sign of the end for American Idol or do you think they have a few more seasons in them?
