The Hollywood Reporter is telling us that Marvel has cast their first lead for Inhumans in the form of Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon.
Best known for his role as Ramsay Bolton on HBO’s hit fantasy series, the actor will take the part of Maximus in the upcoming superhero TV show, which will “explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.” Described as a “clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, the King,” Maximus also “harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself.”
Speaking about Rheon’s casting, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb said the following:
“Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Scott Buck, who’s writing and executive producing the series after working with Marvel on Iron Fist, chimed in as well, saying:
“Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”
Set to debut in 1,000 IMAX theaters over Labor Day weekend before hitting the small screen two weeks later for an eight-episode run, Inhumans will be quite unlike anything we’ve ever seen before when it comes to superheroes on television. Boasting “cinema-quality visual effects,” and with the first two episodes being shot on IMAX cameras, it’s a hugely ambitious project for Marvel and one that we could not be more excited about.
With Rheon now set for the part of Maximus, it sounds like the rest of the cast will start to come together pretty quickly as the show gets ready to shoot in Hawaii this spring. We haven’t heard yet who else the studio may have their eye on, but the Game of Thrones alum is certainly a good start and we’ll be sure to let you know once additional casting announcements arise for Marvel’s Inhumans.
