Fans of The Vampire Diaries were stunned when their favorite history teacher slash vampire hunter was killed off at the end of season 3, but now they have another show to ooh and aww over.

Matt Davis will star in The CW’s newest show Cult, which was one of the five pilots the network picked up for the fall. Besides Davis, the show stars another CW alum, Jessica Lucas (Melrose Place). Also starring are Alona Tal (Supernatural) and Robert Knepper (Prison Break).

Although his departure from The Vampire Diaries was a particularly heart wrenching moment for loyal TVD followers, it looks like Cult has some promise. It’s about a show within a show that begins to draw suspicions based on the rabid fanbase it has built. When some of the fans start taking their obsession to a dangerous level – think Twilight fans at The Hunger Games and Ewdard/Jacob is the prize – a young production assistant (Lucas) starts asking the right questions, which leads her to an investigative reporter (Davis) who might be able to help her get the answers.

Along with Cult, you can expect to see The Carrie Diaries, Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, and First Cut appearing on The CW this year.
