Netflix announces its upcoming slate with no mention of 3 massively expensive shows that wrapped last year

Those "coming 2023" teases are beginning to look fanciful at best.

Unless you’re a noted supporter of either Ginny & Georgia or Wind River which can’t be discounted seeing as both shows have been renewed for additional seasons – then the lack of updates from Netflix‘s recent upfronts presentation may have been a serious cause for concern.

It felt as though the streaming service was playing it safe and keeping its cards close to the chest, but one of the most glaring omissions by far was the lack of any tangible updates surrounding three massively expensive and effects-heavy originals that all wrapped shooting last year. The Three-Body Problem, One Piece, and The Last Airbender were nowhere to be found, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by those keeping an eye on the in-development titles.

The Three-Body Problem is adapted from the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin, with Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss heavily involved in the star-studded saga executive produced by Brad Pitt that began filming all the way back in November of 2021. It was loosely noted as a 2023 release, but it clearly isn’t coming in the fall.

Meanwhile, One Piece ended principal photography in August of last year, with the manga-inspired fantasy also being promised a 2023 debut before going radio silent. Then there’s The Last Airbender, which wrapped things up in June of 2022 and hasn’t even offered so much as a hint of when subscribers can expect it to debut.

While Netflix isn’t obligated to reveal everything coming down the pipeline, given the costs involved and the ongoing radio silence, you’d have thought the platform would have at the very least offered a suggestion of when the respective waits will be over, but it wasn’t to be.
