Netflix clearly favors fantasy of a different kind by renewing its steamy new erotic thriller 2 weeks after premiering

Effects are out, eroticism is in.

As harsh as it sounds, Netflix continues proving that the easiest way for any popular series to score a rapid-fire renewal is by not being fantasy, with salacious erotic thriller Fake Profile the latest to land a stay of execution in double-quick time.

Following hot on the heels of spy thrillers like The Recruit, The Diplomat, and The Night Agent, it’s taken less than two weeks for the Colombian tale of catfishing to be rewarded with a brand new run of episodes, which was admittedly on the cards from the beginning after it rocketed right to the top of the global watch-list after premiering on May 31.

While the big budget and effects-heavy Shadow and Bone closes in on three months of radio silence following a sophomore run of episodes that ended on a major cliffhanger, a trashy drama about the perils of believing everything that you see on dating apps has swooped in and become the latest unlikely Netflix sensation to live another day.

It’s going to cause plenty of frustration without a doubt, but when you consider the viewing figures in relation to the expense required to produce something on a par with Fake Profile, it’s a no-brainer on the company’s part from a business perspective. Of course, that won’t be good enough for many people, but one potential small mercy is that big news for many other originals lurking in purgatory could be hovering just around the horizon with the annual TUDUM showcase set to take place this weekend.

Until then, maybe it’s time to take the plunge and see what all the fuss is about for Fake Profile, if you haven’t already.
