Netflix makes a mockery of its reputation by dishing out yet another rapid-fire renewal for a smash hit series

There must be something in the water over at Netflix.

There must be something in the water at Netflix, with the company making a mockery of its reputation for canceling a large volume of shows with reckless abandon by going on a renewal spree. The latest high-profile hit to be rewarded with another season is Portuguese mystery thriller Turn of the Tide, although fantasy does remain out in the cold for the time being.

The drug-running episodic adventure finds a shipment of cocaine turning up seemingly from out of nowhere in a small coastal town, leading the locals to concoct very different ideas as to what should happen with the illicit cargo. Needless to say, division and backstabbing soon emerge, with Turn of the Tide proving so popular that Netflix has ordered more.

The season 2 confirmation comes only three weeks after its debut, with creator Augusto Fraga’s engaging tale of shifting loyalties joining To All the Boys I’ve Loved spin-off XO, Kitty and Colombia’s erotic sensation Fake Profile as the latest rapid-fire renewal. With TUDUM on the horizon and a mere 24 hours away, maybe there’s hope for Shadow and Bone yet.

Of course, Turn of the Tide is significantly cheaper to make and a great deal less of a risk, but with a major annual event happening right around the time Netflix is going mad for additional seasons, maybe it’s time to cross those fingers tighter than ever. Then again, you never know what the boardroom is thinking on any given day, so holding your breath may not come recommended.
