Shadow and Bone

Netflix renews hope for ‘Shadow and Bone’ season 3 by celebrating Father’s Day

I guess we can stop resenting TUDUM for being disappointing.

Yesterday’s TUDUM event was… lackluster to say the least, and highly disappointing if I dare state the obvious. We barely got one full trailer, some fleeting first looks, and absolutely no news on the projects still stuck in their MIA status. Shadow and Bone season 3 obviously is the biggest chunk of everyone’s concern — missing at TUDUM, it has been three months since its 2nd season debuted on Netflix, and it is a fantasy show, a genre that has been a constant victim of the streamer’s cancelations.

But Shadow and Bone not getting a front seat at TUDUM was definitely concerning as shows released after their 2nd season have already been renewed, Netflix doesn’t necessarily seem to be considering plans of booting it from its platform, if we look closely at the motives behind one of its latest Twitter posts.

It is Father’s Day today and Netflix took it upon itself to underline the auspicious event by sharing a particular clip from a three-month-old episode of its social series Spill the Boba Tea starring Shadow and Bones’ Lewis Tan and his father, Phil Tan.

I know what the critics are thinking — it was posted on Netflix’s “Golden” channel, which is all about “celebrating the Asian diaspora” at the streamer, so Tan’s clip getting reposted isn’t a biggie. Then there is also the possibility that perhaps Netflix doesn’t have that many moments of its star cast speaking about their fathers.

But hear me out – the streamer knows that fans of Shadow and Bone are barely hanging on by a thread. If Netflix is indeed planning to cancel the show, I hardly think it would decide flaunting one of the much-loved stars of the show — that too on this particular Twitter channel, is a sane choice as it would only backfire in case the streamer does make any such announcement in the near future.

Sadly, it is Netflix we are talking about. If it can ignore a show for three years after already renewing it for two seasons, Shadow and Bone getting any update anytime soon might just be a pipe dream.
