First Trailer For Netflix’s The Witcher Teases A Mature Fantasy Epic

It’s been a long time coming, but Netflix’s The Witcher series has finally gotten its first trailer. As some already know, the streaming giant decided to put on a few panels at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and at the event focused on their adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, the company finally gave fans a brief look at what they can expect from the hugely anticipated new series.

The premiere of this footage is a big boon, too, especially since, for the most part, we’ve had no idea which direction Netflix was heading in with the show. Even with this trailer, which teases a mature, gritty fantasy epic full of all the things we’ve come to love from the original video game series, we still know little about the plot – though a few familiar beats can be spotted throughout the preview.

What we do know, however, is that Henry Cavill is set to play the part of the eponymous monster hunter and those who’ve spent time with the video games will be glad to hear that both Ciri and Yennefer are showing up in central roles as well, though we wouldn’t exactly expect Netflix to follow the source material too closely.

Interestingly, while the company is planning to release its adaptation in English, the streaming giant is still committed to keeping things authentic. For those who don’t know, the franchise got its start as a book series from Poland, and it’s since become one of the country’s more cherished contributions to global culture, propelled into the limelight with the release of the aforementioned video games. A quick look at the cast list shows plenty of Eastern, Central, and Western European actors and even Lars Mikkelsen, younger brother of Mads, will have a recurring role.

Needless to say, we’re terribly excited to watch The Witcher for ourselves and with a premiere scheduled for later this year, it seems we won’t have to wait too long to catch it.
