While there are some loopholes that can allow certain production to carry on shooting despite actors and writers striking at the same time for the first time in 60 years, several of Netflix’s biggest hits are not among them, with season 4 of Outer Banks the latest to hit the pause button.
One of the most popular originals the streaming service has at its disposal, the sun-kissed episodic adventure has become such a monster-sized success for the platform that the announcement of its fourth run of episodes came at the end of an entire festival dedicated to celebrating all things Pogue.
Shooting had been underway since June 12 in Charleston, South Carolina, but it was revealed by a local casting agency that not a single frame more of Outer Banks will be shot until the ongoing action that’s ground the entire industry to a standstill has been resolved.
Given Netflix’s love of making its subscribers wait an inordinate amount of time between seasons of its most-watched exclusive titles, then it’s shaping up to be mid-to-late 2024 at the very earliest that users will get to discover what the next chapter in the gang’s never-ending quest for buried treasure will bring.
However, should the strike drag on for longer than expected, then 2025 isn’t entirely out of the question, either. The Sandman also called it quits just days after the Neil Gaiman adaptation called action on its sophomore season, and there are still many heavy hitters (including The Diplomat) that are destined to follow suit in the very near future.
