At only 10 seconds in length, there’s very little content to examine, but the haunting imagery and Biblical destruction jive with the show’s ongoing marketing campaign, which is designed specifically to welcome the end of days. There’s also a timely reminder of when FX plans to trigger the apocalypse – Wednesday, September 12th, meaning we’re now little over a month away from another bout of insanity.

But there’s method behind the madness. As promised, Ryan Murphy and his team plan to draw elements (and characters!) from both “Murder House” and “Coven” to deliver a TV crossover that’s been in the works for months – if not years. And the day has almost arrived…

On the casting docket for “Apocalypse” are regular AHS stalwarts like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Joan Collins, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman and Adina Porter. As the show’s eighth season is tinged by witchcraft, both Emma Roberts and Taissa Farmiga are expected to reprise their roles, too, which ought to please those long-time fans of AHS waiting to see their favorite characters interact on the small screen. After all, series creator Ryan Murphy did say that September belongs to the witches…

American Horror Story‘s “Apocalypse” begins September 12th, and it seems FX’s long-running anthology series has received a second wind, after the Powers That Be issued the green light on seasons 9 and 10, future-proofing AHS all the way up to 2020… and beyond.
