New Look At James Olsen As The Guardian In Images From Next Week’s Supergirl

The CW has released the first official images from next week's episode of Supergirl, and in them, The Guardian is given the spotlight. Who's that, you ask? The CW has released the first official images from next week’s episode of Supergirl, and in them, The Guardian is given the spotlight. Who’s that, you ask? Well, he’s a fairly obscure character from the comic books and this version will be a new persona for photographer James Olsen, as he decides to become a vigilante in National City.

That’s something which has received a mixed response from comic book fans, but really, what else could Supergirl do with him? The decision was made to scrap his romantic relationship with Kara early on in season 2, and now that the Girl of Steel no longer needs a mentor of sorts, something had to be done in order to keep him relevant in the show, right?

For more on what to expect from this episode of Supergirl – titled “Changing” – here’s the official synopsis:

The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality. Andrew Kreisberg and Caitlin Parris wrote the script based on the story by Greg Beranti. The episode was directed by Larry Teng.

The shots of Kara and her sister Alex having a heart to heart in the gallery above are also particularly interesting, especially now that we know she’s come out of the closet. What we’re seeing is likely the moment she tells Supergirl about that, and what sort of impact that has on their relationship promises to add an interesting new dynamic to the series.

So far though, Supergirl has handled Alex coming to terms with her sexuality in a very sensitive and effective manner, so expect that to continue when this episode airs next Monday.
