New Titans Trailer Promises A Dark And Gritty Adventure

A new trailer for Titans has dropped today and it promises a dark and gritty adventure when the show arrives later this month.

As much as we all enjoy watching the likes of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman tearing it up on the big screen, there are a number of other DC characters who’ve yet to be used by Warner Bros. in their movies. Fortunately, then, the TV side of things has spoiled us in kind in recent years, especially The CW’s phenomenal Arrowverse – though even that has its limitations.

Enter DC Universe, a new streaming service dedicated entirely to producing content relevant to this brand. Spearheading the initiative is Titans, a team-up show which unites Robin AKA Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft) and Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) in an unexpectedly dark and gritty set of adventures.

That’s no more apparent then in today’s new promo, which arrives ahead of the premiere later this month and teases what to expect. While there are moments of humor sprinkled throughout, it’s clear that the tone the producers are going for here is not one that’s light-hearted. And though it’s not quite as dark as that Comic-Con trailer, it’s still got mature written all over it.

But will Titans actually be any good? Well, that’s hard to say at this point as we don’t want to rush to any judgements just yet. Still, the costumes aren’t great, some of the dialogue is a bit cringeworthy and it looks like the CGI could use some work, too. That being said, the actors all appear to be solid and the overall tone seems to work well for the material. It might not be the razzle-dazzle launch DC’s hoping for, but there should still be plenty of reasons for viewers to tune in.

For more, be sure to give the official synopsis a gander:

Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find belonging in a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. Dick Grayson and Rachel Roth, a special young girl possessed by a strange darkness, get embroiled in a conspiracy that could bring Hell on Earth. Joining them along the way are the hot-headed Starfire and loveable Beast Boy. Together they become a surrogate family and team of heroes.

Titans touches down on the DC Universe streaming service on October 12th – which will give you just enough time to catch The Walking Dead and Doctor Who‘s respective premieres, both of which are due to hit the airwaves on Sunday, October 7th.
